FDA Food Traceability Rule (FSMA 204)

The FDA has postponed the Food Traceability Rule (FSMA 204) compliance date by 30 months, shifting the deadline from January 20, 2026, to July 20, 2028. This extension, driven by industry challenges with technology and implementation, applies to all parties required to keep records for foods on the Food Traceability List.

The FDA Food Traceability List (FTL) includes high-risk produce requiring enhanced record-keeping under FSMA Rule 204. Key produce items include fresh leafy greens, melons, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs, sprouts, and tropical tree fruits (e.g., mango, papaya).

Upcoming Produce Safety Alliance Training

The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) is planning to host a Produce Safety Alliance Training in December 2026. This session is contingent upon grower interest. If you or your staff would like to attend, please contact Dave Basinger at [email protected] to express your interest and help us finalize the schedule.
